The Schloss Pfaueninsel. ( Peacock Island palace). The rooms preserve the original interior decorations from the period around 1800.
|Berlin can be unexpectedly romantic. Pfaueninsel (Peacock Island), an idyllic spot in the city's charming South-West, was chosen by King Frederick William II as a love refuge. He adorned it with a small castle in the style of a " dilapidated gothic knight's castle" (1794 - 96). The island is 1.5 kms long, making it the second largest island in Berlin. It once accommodated Berlin's first zoological garden and is today a nature reserve and home to a great number of wild peacocks. photo: 2002
